Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 August 2026

Misheard is an iPhone app that shows you what speech recognition heard when you said a word. This policy explains what it stores, where it stores it, and the one case in which anything leaves your device.

The short version. Misheard has no account and no server. It collects no personal information, contains no analytics or advertising SDK, and sends nothing to us — we could not see your data if we wanted to. Everything it stores stays on your iPhone.

What Misheard stores on your device

All of this is held in the app's own storage on your iPhone. It is removed when you delete the app, and you can delete any part of it at any time from Settings → Data.

Speech recognition, and the one time audio leaves your device

Misheard uses Apple's Speech framework to turn what you say into text. It has a setting called “Keep speech on device”, which is on by default. While it is on, recognition runs entirely on your iPhone and no audio is transmitted anywhere.

If you turn that setting off, Misheard may fall back to Apple's speech recognition servers, and in that case audio is sent to Apple to be transcribed. That is how iOS keyboard dictation behaves by default. It is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one. We never receive that audio or the resulting text.

Note that iOS shows its own fixed wording when it first asks for speech recognition permission — it mentions sending speech data to Apple regardless of the setting above. That text comes from the operating system and cannot be changed by an app. What actually happens is determined by the setting.

What Misheard does not do

Purchases

Misheard Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Payment details are given to Apple, never to us; we receive no card number, name or address. The app asks Apple whether the purchase exists on your Apple Account in order to unlock the paid features.

Children

Misheard collects no personal information from anyone, including children. There is no account, no messaging, no user-generated content shared with anyone, and no third-party content.

Your rights and your control

Because nothing is collected or transmitted to us, there is no data of yours for us to hand over, correct or erase — we have none. Control sits with you, on the device:

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a future version of Misheard ever collects something it does not collect today, that will be described here before the feature ships, not after.
